Interview Tips & Advice
Prepare
Kingfisher will try and give you as much company information as possible but try to go online and research the Company and what they do.
Failing to prepare for your interview could mean you miss the opportunity to make that all important lasting impression.
Take copies of any references, certificates or achievement and any other documents which are relevant to the position you are being interviewed for.
First Impressions
Ensure you know where you are going and allow plenty of time to get there (take a map or if possible do a dummy run) so you know exactly where the office is.
First Impressions Count! First impressions like turning up late, not apologising for lateness, not dressing appropriately, chewing gum, smelling of alcohol or cigarettes or not turning off your mobile phone can ruin your chances of getting the job in the first few seconds.
Don’t ask questions about benefits i.e.: salary, holidays etc. This can put off interviewers. Things like this can be discussed at a later date.
The Interview
Answering a question badly can be something as simple as talking for too long or too little, this could be a result of not listening properly or lack of interview experience and therefore nerves. However if you feel you did not understand the question ask the interviewer to repeat or clarify.
Prepare for the following questions such as:
• What is your greatest failure?
• What is your biggest weakness?
• Why did you leave your last job?
• What can you bring to this role?
Prepare some questions to ask the interviewer during the course of the interview. If you wish write them down beforehand and take them in with you. Remember an interview is a two way thing. Ask questions as you go along rather than waiting until the end as most interviewers will prefer this.
If you get to the end of the interview and you can’t think of anything to ask, tell the interviewer ‘you have covered everything’.
At the end of the interview ask them what the next stage is. If you like the sound of the job and you want it then tell them.
Think Positive!
Stay positive throughout your interview, even if you do not feel that the interview is going well the interviewer might! Remain positive with a friendly, professional attitude.
During your interview avoid commenting negatively about previous employers or express negative views which may lead the employer to think badly of you.
Sound as though you are already working for the Company and show genuine interest in the Company and their plans. Convince them that you can do the job and want the position.
Getting an offer
If an offer is made to you at the interview, always respond positively. Let them know that you want the job. It is easier to negotiate items like salary later. Don’t reject the position outright. Ask for time to think it over.
